Helsingborg city tour and Sofiero palace
Helsingborg, since the Viking Age inextricably linked to the sea, is quite deservedly known as the Pearl of the Öresund. Helsingborg is dominated by Kärnan, the medieval brick keep which has kept a vigilant watch over Helsingborg, the Öresund and Elsinore since the 14th century, i d the time when Denmark was found on either side of the sound. The city is an irresistible mixture of new and old. Gothic cathedral (St Mary’s) is a stone’s throw away from Kim Utzon-designed Dunker Cultural Centre, the City Hall and the Bernadotte Monument. Coffee break optional before or during visit to Sofiero, a former royal summer residence. The palace with its fairy tale aura is perched on a hill surrounded by flourishing rhododendrons and perennial borders once masterly designed by British-born Crown Princess Margaret. Sofiero is a peaceful haven for locals all year round and a self-evident rhodoholic destination in early summer.
